McKinsey Documents Insights & Templates

Known as "The Firm," McKinsey & Company is the oldest, largest, and most influential of the "Big Three" (MBB) management consulting firms. McKinsey is known as the "gold standard" in management consulting and is the most recognized management consulting firm in the world. McKinsey has also generated the greatest number of Fortune 500 CEOs. A study in 2012 revealed 70 of the Fortune 500 CEOs were McKinsey alumni. Recently, the firm has received some bad press due to the book "When McKinsey Comes to Town," which discusses a variety of controversies and scandals that has surrounded the firm.

Large consulting and advisory firms, like McKinsey, have internal knowledge management repositories that allow their consultants to easily access and share documents (e.g., consulting frameworks, PowerPoint templates, project deliverables, whitepapers, case studies, business cases, financial models, benchmark data, etc.) and expertise within the organization. McKinsey’s primary system is known as PDNet (Practice Development Network), which has long served as the firm’s central repository for codified knowledge, client deliverables, and proprietary frameworks. Know organizes and indexes project documents, industry analyses, and functional best practices contributed by consultants across the globe. Historically, McKinsey also leveraged earlier generations of internal document libraries and practice-specific archives before consolidating them under Know, which remains the firm’s authoritative knowledge base today.

These document repositories promote collaboration, facilitate the sharing of best practices, and help ensure that the firm's knowledge and expertise are leveraged effectively across different client engagements and teams. They are a key differentiator that allow firms like McKinsey to outcompete other organizations.

Flevy is essentially a public version of these consulting knowledge management libraries. The McKinsey documents listed above on this page are framework presentations of the same caliber as those developed and used by McKinsey consultants. These frameworks are widely applicable across different projects, addressing general topics like problem solving, structured communication, strategic thinking, project management, etc. For frameworks and resources catered to a specific management topic, such as Change Management, Process Improvement, Digital Transformation, etc., scroll down to the "Other Management Topics" section.

The majority of the materials found on Flevy are developed by seasoned executives and consultants with 20+ years of experience with backgrounds that include McKinsey, BCG, Bain, Deloitte, Accenture, A.T. Kearney, Capgemini, IBM Global Services, EY, PwC, Mercer, and Oliver Wyman.

Real McKinsey PPT Presentations

We offer a large, growing collection of presentations that adhere to the McKinsey-style design structure. These presentations follow the structured slide format used by McKinsey, Bain, BCG, and other tier-1 strategy consulting firms. Each slide typically features a headline statement, detailed content and visuals (e.g. charts, diagrams), and a bumper statement to highlight the key takeaway. This format ensures clarity and focuses attention on the most important message of each slide. These presentations also commonly employ presentation development frameworks, such as MECE, Pyramid Principle, and Storyboarding.
