Purpose drives people. It is what makes them feel motivated and empowered. People with a sense of purpose find a reason for being. A well-defined purpose enhances satisfaction and self-esteem in individuals. Purpose makes people more productive and better performers.
This PowerPoint presentation provides a detailed overview of the Ikigai Framework. The framework is based on the concept of sense of Purpose in individuals.
The word "Ikigai" is a combination of 2 words: "iki," which means life, and "kai" (pronounced as gai), for value or usefulness. Thus, the word roughly translates to "reason for being" or "purpose in life" in English. Ikigai, or "purpose of life," varies from person to person and is highly subjective.
The Ikigai Framework has 4 key elements:
1. Passion – Passion refers to the things that you love, enjoy, and feel deeply about. It represents a person's inner fire, the activities or pursuits that make her or him feel alive and engaged.
2. Mission – This element involves identifying activities or goals that align with your passions, interests, and talents while also addressing a need and making a positive impact on the world around you.
3. Vocation – Simply enjoying our work and being skilled at it are insufficient. The Vocation element emphasizes the importance of fair compensation of individuals work.
4. Profession – Profession, in the Ikigai context, refers to the domain or field of work where your skills, expertise, and competence align with your ability to earn a living.
You can find your Ikigai at the junction where each of the 4 fundamental elements of life overlap. This is where you will find pleasure and value in whatever you do.
Ikigai trains us to anticipate and savor the moment we live in—cherishing simple pleasures like a morning jog or weekend routine. Further, discovering personal Ikigai supports living a stress-free life, allowing us to appreciate what we possess and enhance our physical and mental health. These benefits extend impact both personal and professional well-being and leads to higher levels of work satisfaction, productivity, and growth.
Other topics discussed in the slide deck include 5 pillars of the Ikigai Framework, the 7 types of personal needs, and how to find your own Ikigai, among others.

This PPT slide presents the Ikigai Framework, which is a conceptual tool designed to help individuals find purpose and fulfillment in their lives. It highlights 4 essential elements: Passion, Mission, Vocation, and Profession. Each element is defined by its intersection with others, creating a comprehensive view of how these aspects contribute to a person's sense of purpose.
The section on Passion emphasizes that it lies at the intersection of what one loves and what one is good at. This suggests that true passion is not merely about enjoyment, but also about competence. The Mission element is described as the overlap between personal interests and societal needs, indicating that fulfilling one's mission requires aligning personal desires with external demands.
Profession is positioned where skills meet financial compensation, implying that a successful career should ideally merge what one is good at with what one can be paid for. Vocation, conversely, focuses on the intersection of societal needs and financial viability, suggesting that individuals should also consider how their work impacts the world while ensuring they receive adequate compensation.
The visual representation of these elements in a Venn diagram format reinforces the idea that finding one's Ikigai requires a balance among these 4 areas. The slide concludes with a statement encouraging individuals to seek their Ikigai at the junction of these elements, emphasizing the importance of deriving pleasure and value from one’s pursuits. This framework can serve as a valuable guide for anyone looking to enhance their personal and professional lives.
