What Is Kanban?

A Kanban board is a visual tool used to manage and optimize workflows. It is named after the Japanese word "kanban," which means "signboard" or "billboard." (For more information on the Lean concept of Kanban, go here.)

A Kanban board typically consists of a physical or digital board that is divided into columns, with each column representing a different stage in the workflow. The board is then populated with cards, which represent individual tasks or items that are being worked on. The cards are moved from column to column as the tasks progress through the workflow.

The Kanban board is a flexible tool that can be used in a variety of settings, including Manufacturing, Software Development, and Project Management. It can help teams to visualize their work, identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies, and manage the flow of work more effectively.

By using a Kanban board, teams can improve collaboration, coordination, and communication, and can more easily track progress and prioritize tasks. Additionally, the Kanban board can provide valuable insights into the performance of the workflow, which can be used to identify opportunities for improvement and optimization.
