New employee orientation (NEO) is the process of introducing new hires to their jobs, colleagues, and the organization. It's about who you are as a company, about how new hires fit in, and about why they are important.
The onboarding period starts as soon as a candidate signs the offer letter – and hence becomes a future employee. It ends when the employee is able to autonomously do the job they were hired to do.
New employee orientation, on the other hand, focuses on newcomers during their first day/week. As such, NEO is (an essential) part of the onboarding process.
In other words, when it comes to onboarding vs. new employee orientation, the former involves a (much) longer process than the latter. Both, however, have the same goal; to familiarize new hires with the organization, the people, and the job.
Benefits of new employee orientation
Frequently named benefits of employee orientation include:
1. Reducing stress and anxiety. This is probably the number one benefit of new employee orientation. No matter how well you've prepared candidates during the recruitment process, they'll still be nervous on their first day.
2. A well-organized orientation helps to reduce that stress and provides clarity about what's on the agenda for people's first day and beyond.
3. Increase commitment to the organization. A proper orientation will make new hires feel welcome, appreciated, and needed right from the start. This will increase their commitment.
Increase productivity, decrease mistakes. When done well, new employee orientation will help employees get up to speed faster. It will also help in avoiding (unnecessary) mistakes.
4. Reduce turnover. As a result of the three benefits just mentioned, employee turnover should go down; employee orientation shows people the organization cares and provides them with the tools they need to do their job well.
5. Contributing to a positive relationship and communication between the new hire, their colleagues, and manager.

His biggest achievement was in 2021 when He served as Deputy President Director at Hutahaean Group Indonesia by increasing the company's revenue from IDR 700 billion to IDR 1.1 trillion (y/y) and increasing the profit margin by more than 20%. Doing a turn around on business units that have lost in the last 5 years become profits. In addition, He have also succeeded in creating an efficient and effective management system by redesigning the Business Process Management (BPM), reviewing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Work Instructions and compiling the appropriate Key Performance Indicator Management (KPIM) to increase employee productivity.
He is currently active as a part-time business and management consultant (online) at Enquire Corp. and Flevy Corp. In addition, He also teach part-time at several universities for courses in strategic management, human resource management, project management, entrepreneurship and business.
