Change Leadership, one of SAP's six OCM dimensions, starts with a basic but
frequently under-done exercise: knowing exactly who is affected by the
implementation, how much power and interest each group holds, and what
specifically changes for them. Skipping or rushing this step is a leading cause
of stakeholder engagement plans that miss the people who actually matter most,
and it's a mistake that tends to surface at the worst possible time, mid-project,
when a stakeholder nobody prioritized turns out to have enough influence to slow
everything down.
This Excel template addresses the practical questions that stakeholder work
raises: Who has the influence to make or break this project, even if their
formal interest looks low? Which stakeholder groups need the most hands-on
engagement versus a light touch? How does our stakeholder picture change as the
project moves from Prepare through Realize, and how do we keep that picture
current rather than treating it as a one-time exercise done in a single kickoff
workshop?
What's included in this Excel workbook:
• Read Me tab explaining the multi-phase nature of stakeholder work
• Stakeholder Register tab: a structured log capturing stakeholder or group
name, role, business unit, Influence and Interest scores (1-5), the nature and
severity of the change impact, engagement approach, owner, and which
assessment pass (Prepare, Explore, or Realize) the entry reflects
• Influence-Interest Map tab: a live, auto-updating scatter chart plotting every
stakeholder as an individually labeled, individually colored point, with the
standard quadrant framework (Manage Closely, Keep Satisfied, Keep Informed,
Monitor) included as engagement guidance
The phase-by-phase timing of stakeholder work (an initial pass in Prepare, a
refined pass in Explore, a detailed pass in Realize, not a one-time exercise)
comes directly from SAP's OCM framework. To use it, add a row per stakeholder to
the Register and the chart updates automatically, including the legend, no
manual chart editing required as the stakeholder list grows.
Delivered as a fully editable Excel spreadsheet (XLSX) with a pre-built chart. An
SAP stakeholder mapping and influence-interest matrix template suited to change
managers building stakeholder engagement plans on SAP projects.
Usage tip: revisit the register at each phase gate rather than treating it as
complete after the first pass, stakeholders who looked peripheral in Prepare
sometimes turn out to carry real influence once detailed impacts become clear in
Realize.
