Knowing how much change management effort a project needs is only half the
picture; the other half is knowing whether the organization actually has the
capability to deliver it. A project with high change management needs paired
with low organizational capability is the exact combination that most often
causes SAP implementations to stall on adoption.
This Excel assessment addresses the questions that follow from that gap: Does our
organization have real change management experience, or is this our first time?
Do we have the internal capability to lead stakeholder engagement, or do we need
external support? Which of our capabilities are strengths we can lean on, and
which are genuine gaps that need investment before the project reaches a critical
phase?
What's included in this Excel workbook:
• Read Me tab explaining the scoring methodology and sourcing
• Assessment tab: 9 organizational capabilities (3 general capabilities
reflecting company culture, plus 6 operational capabilities mapped one-to-one
to SAP's six OCM dimensions), each scored across 3 assets on a 0-2 scale
• Guidance Library tab: full interpretation and gap-closing guidance for every
capability
• Results & Guidance tab: automatic Strength/Gap classification per capability,
capability-specific guidance distinguishing quick-to-close gaps (like specific
know-how) from slower cultural gaps, and a priority summary listing every
capability currently flagged as a gap
The nine capabilities, their grouping, the OCM dimension mapping, and the gap
guidance come directly from SAP's published OCM framework. The workbook
explicitly recommends cross-referencing results against the Project Assessment,
since a capability gap on a dimension the project scores High on is the
combination needing attention first.
Delivered as a fully editable Excel spreadsheet (XLSX). An SAP change readiness
and organizational capability assessment template suited to PMOs and consultants
evaluating readiness before or during an SAP change management engagement, and a
useful companion to the Project Assessment for anyone making staffing or budget
decisions on an SAP change workstream.
Usage tip: don't try to close general capability gaps (Change Culture, Change
Experience) the same way you'd close an operational gap like Communicating
Change, the guidance tab distinguishes between the two deliberately, since
cultural gaps typically call for awareness-building over multiple projects
rather than a quick training fix.
