In addition to race and gender, ethnic differences, generational, physical and mental, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, education, among many other differences, all work together to ensure creativity, competitiveness and profitability. Organizations having workforces that reflect the populations they serve are more relevant and are more successful in recruiting and retaining talented, high-performing employees. Furthermore, organizations embracing diversity enjoy positive reputations and better public images.

Use this diversity reference to develop and communicate cultural values and standards. Additionally, incorporate it into orientation training as well as ongoing training and coaching sessions. Establishing expectations and holding everyone in the organization accountable for accepting and promoting diversity sets a tone while detailing expectations that are incorporated into Recruiting and Interviewing processes as well as Performance Management Systems. The cost alone of employee dissatisfaction, turnover and future inability to attract diverse candidates are all reasons for promoting and embracing diversity.
