DESCRIPTION
Understanding the value of what team members bring to the workplace is important in effectively benefiting from their strengths and identifying opportunities for further development. Engaging and motivating team members provide opportunities for skill development when they are entrusted to develop and implement projects/initiatives they recommend. This talent development increases their value and provides a succession pipeline.
Overcoming obstacles and navigating conflicts in teams are important to keep members focused on the purpose and objectives of the project/initiative and ensure continued and regular progress.
This document provides supervision/management with 12 pages of actions they may take to accomplish the following:
• Appreciate Individual and Team Achievements: Identify three personally gratifying achievements of each team member. Everyone learns something unique and valuable about each other. Strengths as well as qualities and characteristics are identified, and supervision/management can determine how to best apply these in the workplace. Sample outcomes are provided so various options can be explored.
• Build Team Member Skills in Preparation for Future Opportunities: Numerous solutions are provided for how to expand skills, talents and experiences of team members. Continued development and growth help open up future individual opportunities as well as contribute to the organization's success in terms of enhanced quality, improved customer service and enhanced competitiveness in the marketplace.
• Navigate and Overcome Obstacles in Teams: Solutions are provided for overcoming the "I don't have any control" mindset and not using it as an excuse for limited progress, ground rules for working in teams, choosing where to expend energies to move the team forward or to hold it back, what helps and what hurts when managing our coworker interactions, and actions to ensure team success.
