This case study talks about the major supply chain issues of an Australian Medical device manufacturer called Medcom. Medcom currently finds itself in a chain of interrelated problems that span throughout its supply chain and affected its operational performance badly. The company?s main objective is to gain higher market share in its home market by increasing its product portfolio and staying competitive in the market. In order to do so the manufacturing department of the company will have to play a major role by not only decreasing costs of product but also optimize its operational performance. However, there are several roadblocks for Medcom to achieve this objective. Starting from a failed attempt to implement Lean Manufacturing, operational break downs to high inventory pile up the entire supply chain is full of pain points. Also, the sourcing & procurement stream has a huge pressure on cutting costs by getting new suppliers on board whilst maintaining quality of raw material. Apart from this there seems to be a wide gap in actual market demand and the sales team forecasts. Moreover, interdepartmental coordination seems to be lacking as all the departments don?t seem to be on the same page. Thus, Medcom has to not only overcome these issues but create a modern and robust supply chain in order to achieve its objectives.
