Leading Edge Evaluation/ Feedback Sheet for Post Training, Education and Wider Learning Programme Delivery
Training, education or wider learning evaluation often relies heavily on a feedback sheet provided at the end of training. Often, this is regarded as a tick box exercise as these tend to simply measure people's initial reaction to the learning. As such, they tend not to help the provider to understand the impact and difference their learning has made.
This evaluation sheet is designed to bring greater intelligence and insight to post-training, education and wider learning by exploring the impact and future difference that the programme makes. It does so through a simple to adminster evaluation form with just six core questions for participants to answer. However, these can transform the understanding of the provider on the full impact the training, education or learning provides – helping providers sell the programme through demonstration of the difference it makes for participants and the people and businesses they work for and with.
How It Works?
Good practice on training, education and wider learning evaluation is based around the Kirkpatrick Model; an internationally established tool for evaluating and understanding the full impact of the learning provided. It explores learning across four levels – with levels 3 and 4 demonstrating the higher end of success and especially the difference the learning has made. This the difference, not just for the individual but the organisations they work for, the people they engage and the things that they do. The four levels are:
1. Reaction: important though limited to the initial ‘feel' for the learning programme. Most evaluation and feedback sheets deliver this, but only this.
2. Learning: focuses on measuring what participants have and have not learned. Some evaluation sheets do this.
3. Behaviour: this is identifying the change in capability of an individual as a result of the learning. This is rarely explored on feedback sheets but is essential to understanding difference made and provides incredible insight into the power of the learning.
4. Results: this is the ultimate level in training evaluation – seeking to understand the difference the learning has made to people's lives, work and those around them. It connects learning to performance and can show ultimately the true value of training, education and wider learning.
This programme evaluation sheet seeks to explore all four components with the learner to provide a radically different form of feedback from the traditional feedback or ‘happy' sheets. It is the Gold Standard in evaluation and provides real intelligence and insight into the value of the learning.
