The model is a product of research at Exxon to improve the effectiveness of their Leadership. This grid provides a method to understand more about various Leadership styles and how they work, and is useful in understanding a leader's innate style, and pinpoint the skills they lack.
The Blake Mouton Managerial Grid model is based on 2 behavioral dimensions—Concern for People and Concern for Results—and encompasses 5 core Leadership styles:
1. The Impoverished (or Indifferent) Style
2. The Country Club (or Accommodating) Style
3. The Produce or Perish (or Dictatorial) Style
4. The Middle-of-the-Road (or Status Quo) Style
5. The Team (or Sound) Style
The Blake-Mouton Managerial Grid suggests that when concern for both people and results is high employee engagement and productivity stands out.
