DESCRIPTION
The concepts of Lean are straightforward and can be easily understood. In comparison to technical engineering projects, implementing Lean designs is relatively simple. However, many attempts to implement Lean production end in disappointing results.
Why is it so challenging to achieve successful Lean implementations when the principles seem so straightforward? The answer lies in an often overlooked but critical aspect of Lean: the need for a fundamentally different approach to day-to-day management, which may be unfamiliar and uncomfortable for leaders in traditional environments.
One critical ingredient that many Lean organizations lack is a Lean daily management system to sustain their Lean practices. While these organizations primarily focus on identifying and eliminating waste using Lean tools, a Lean daily management system is essential for sustaining Lean practices and cultivating a Lean culture.
A Lean Daily Management System (also known as a Lean Management System or Daily Management System) enables the delivery of customer value through effective support and leadership to those closest to the process, including customers and process owners. This system comprises practices and tools used to monitor, measure, and sustain Lean production operations. By implementing Lean management practices, organizations can identify performance gaps and implement improvement activities to align actual performance with expectations or raise the level of expected performance.
The fundamental components of a Lean Daily Management System are:
1. Leader Standard Work: Daily checklists for line production leaders such as team leaders, supervisors, and value stream managers that outline expectations for focusing on the process.
2. Visual Controls: Tracking charts and other visual tools that display actual performance compared to expected performance for various processes within a Lean operation, whether it be production or non-production related.
3. Daily Accountability Process: Structured, brief, tiered meetings centered around performance, with visual action assignments and follow-up to close gaps between actual results and expected performance.
4. Leadership Discipline: Consistent adherence to the processes defined by the first three elements, demonstrated by leaders themselves and reinforced through their follow-up on others' adherence.
Implementing a Lean Daily Management System empowers Lean leaders, including team leaders, supervisors, department managers, value stream managers, and senior executives, to enhance their leadership effectiveness based on Lean best practices. This system serves as a daily management mechanism that effectively manages employees, whether they work on the shop floor, in the office, or in flexible or work-from-home environments.
Our Lean Daily Management System PPT training presentation provides guidance on implementing a sustainable and successful transformation by fostering a culture in which stakeholders at all levels of the organization are involved and invested in the outcome. It equips you with the knowledge and tools to implement the four key elements of the Lean Daily Management System, enhancing your effectiveness as a Lean transformation leader.
