5G fixed wireless access (FWA) can extend broadband service without building a fiber connection to every premises. Yet a coverage map alone cannot establish that a proposed service will work. Engineers must test the customer promise against address-level coverage, uplink performance, busy-hour capacity, installation conditions, the end-to-end network, and deployment economics.
This 15-chapter e-book provides a practical method for examining those decisions. It is written for RF and network planning engineers, solution architects, presales teams, transport and operations engineers, and technical managers who review FWA proposals. Readers follow one fictional region with urban, suburban, and rural clusters from an initial opportunity assessment through engineering, delivery, operations, and a conditional deployment decision.
The foundations chapters explain where FWA fits among broadband access options, how 5G technology and spectrum choices affect a fixed service, and how the service travels from customer premises equipment through the radio, transport, core, and service edge. The engineering chapters then address RF measurements and link budgets, propagation and coverage, interference, demand and capacity, service quality, and an integrated dimensioning case. Downlink and uplink are evaluated separately throughout.
The delivery and operations chapters cover transport and resilience, site and CPE installation, commissioning and acceptance, monitoring, optimization, and troubleshooting. A deployment economics chapter compares FWA and fiber for the same fictional address set and examines how assumptions affect cash flow, net present value, payback, and the decision to deploy, pilot, redesign, or defer.
The final chapter reviews 6G FWA research and open questions. It distinguishes current 5G engineering practice from research directions, draft requirements, and future possibilities. It does not present 6G as a commercially available FWA solution.
The book includes figures, worked examples, a glossary, an acronym list, and numbered references. A reader edition of the companion Excel workbook is available through a hyperlink inside the e-book. It allows readers to inspect the fictional assumptions, link budget, dimensioning calculations, and economic scenarios. The workbook is hosted separately rather than attached to this document listing.
All case data and financial values are illustrative teaching inputs, not measured network results, market prices, vendor guarantees, or investment forecasts. The methods are intended to help readers frame questions, document assumptions, identify missing evidence, and review a proposed FWA service more rigorously.
