I think we all agree that the old tools, models and methodologies should not be blindly followed and they should only act as a reference point. Unfortunately, there are those out there who still wear the "methodology blinkers" and find it hard to remove them when they are hit with a surprise or unexpected situation that they cannot find an answer to in their training materials or their rigid tools and templates. This is where a Change Manager needs to have common sense and work through the issue without necessarily referencing what they have been taught. Common sense is the ability to think and act reasonably and practically, using sound judgment and basic understanding to navigate everyday situations. It's often described as the level of practical knowledge and judgment that most people possess, allowing them to make sensible decisions without needing specialised knowledge or training. Sadly I do not think some Change Managers are gifted with common sense and therefore have trouble navigating some of those surprises or unexpected situations. These slides will hopefully show you how important it is for a Change Managers to have common sense, why it matters, hen to use it and the fact that it's not optional.
