DESCRIPTION
The Standard Pig Game is a creative approach to learning that aims to demonstrate the value of standard work in creating stable and repeatable processes to maximize performance and minimize waste. The game can be played in a classroom or workshop setting and requires only basic equipment, such as paper, pencil or pen, masking tape, and a wall to tape the drawings on.
The game consists of three rounds, each with different instructions and discussions. In Round 1, participants are asked to draw a pig and tape it to the wall within 40 seconds. The discussions after this round focus on the similarities and differences between the pigs and the challenges encountered in drawing them.
In Round 2, participants are provided with a set of instructions to draw a pig step by step in a sequence of roughly nine equal rectangles. Again, they are given 40 seconds to complete the task and tape it to the wall. The discussions after this round focus on the clarity of the instructions, whether they set up the participants for success, and the challenges encountered in following them.
In Round 3, participants are shown a completed pig drawing with numbers indicating the order of each step. They are asked to recreate the drawing within 40 seconds and tape it to the wall. The discussions after this round focus on the improvements made in the pigs and the key items learned, which should be tied back to the value or benefits of standard work concepts, process, and documentation.
The Standard Pig Game is designed to help participants understand the importance of standard work in maximizing performance and minimizing waste. By demonstrating the benefits of stable and repeatable processes, the game aims to encourage participants to apply these concepts in their work and achieve better outcomes.
