DOCUMENT DESCRIPTION
The key concepts of Lean are easily grasped, and relative to most technical engineering projects, Lean designs are easily implemented. Yet the majority of attempts to implement Lean production end in disappointing outcomes.
Why, when it seems so simple are successful Lean implementations so difficult to achieve? The answer is in an overlooked but crucial aspect of Lean. It requires an almost completely different approach in day-to-day and hour-to-hour management, compared to anything with which leaders in conventional environments are familiar or comfortable.
Most Lean organizations are missing a critical ingredient: a Lean management system to sustain it. Lean organizations are mostly focused on finding waste and eliminating them using Lean tools. However, to sustain Lean practices, we need a Lean Management System. And, Lean cultures grow from robust Lean management systems.
A Lean Daily Management System (a.k.a. Lean Management System or Daily Management System) is the system that allows you to deliver customer value through proper support and leadership to those who are closest to the process (customers and process owners). These are practices and tools used to monitor, measure, and sustain the operation of Lean production operations. Lean management practices identify where actual performance fails to meet expected performance, and assigns and follows up improvement activities to bring actual in line with expected, or to raise the level of expected performance.
The basic components of the Lean Management System are: Leader Standard Work, Visual Controls, Daily Accountability and Leadership Discipline.
• Leader Standard Work: Daily checklists for line production leaders—team leaders, supervisors, and value stream managers—that state expectations for what it means to focus on the process.
• Visual Controls: Tracking charts and other visual tools that reflect actual performance compared with expected performance of virtually any process in a Lean operation—production and non-production alike.
• Daily Accountability Process: Brief, structured, tiered meetings focused on performance with visual action assignments and follow-up to close gaps between actual results and expected performance.
• Leadership Discipline: Leaders themselves consistently following and following up on others' adherence to the processes that define the first three elements.
The Lean Management System will help Lean leaders such as team leaders, supervisors, department managers, value stream managers and senior executives to improve leadership effectiveness based on Lean best practices.
As a daily management system, this is the most effective mechanism for managing employees not just in the shopfloor or office, but also those working in a flexible or work-from-home environments.
This Lean Management System PPT training presentation shows you how to implement a sustainable, successful transformation by developing a culture that has your stakeholders throughout the organizational chart involved and invested in the outcome. It teaches you how to implement the four key elements of the Lean Management System to enhance your effectiveness as a Lean transformation leader.

"I have used Flevy services for a number of years and have never, ever been disappointed. As a matter of fact, David and his team continue, time after time, to impress me with their willingness to assist and in the real sense of the word. I have concluded in fact that it is not at all just a repository of documents/resources but, in the way that David and his team manage the firm, it is like dealing with consultants always ready to assist, advise and direct you to what you really need, and they always get it right.
I am an international hospitality accomplished senior executive who has worked and lived during the past 35 years in 23 countries in 5 continents and I can humbly say that I know what customer service is, trust me. Aside from the great and professional service that Flevy's team provide, their wide variety of material is of utmost great quality, professionally put together and most current. Well done Flevy, keep up the great work and I look forward to continue working with you in the future and to recommend you to a variety of colleagues around the world." – Roberto Pelliccia, Senior Executive in International Hospitality
