DESCRIPTION
Lean Six Sigma is the longest running process improvement methodology of all time, and for one reason – it works! Started at Motorola in the early 1980's, Lean Six Sigma gained worldwide attention after delivering billions of dollars in savings at GE. In one form or another, Lean Six Sigma has been deployed by almost every organization on the Fortune 500. For this reason, some believe it is for large organizations only. But it's not just for large organizations. And it's not just for manufacturers either. Big, small, manufacturing or service . . . Lean Six Sigma can significantly benefit them all.
Although Lean and Six Sigma were initially two separate disciplines, process improvement visionaries foresaw the complementary nature of a Lean and Six Sigma integration. The goal of Lean is the unimpeded flow of goods and services to customers, achieved through waste elimination. Lean focuses on process velocity. The goal of Six Sigma is the elimination of process variation and defects. Six Sigma focuses on process quality. Together they provide a methodology that addresses the ills of any process. This module introduces the reader to Lean Six Sigma. The material is suitable for independent study, executive briefing or as an introduction in formal classroom training.
