Stop reinventing the architecture review every time one is needed.
Every solution review tends to be the same scramble: assemble a checklist, argue about what good looks like, chase non-functional requirements nobody wrote down, and produce a report a design authority will accept. This kit provides a repeatable system for exactly that, aligned to TOGAF and proven across three fully worked examples.
A SYSTEM, NOT A FOLDER OF FILES
The checklist and NFR assessment feed the scorecard. The scorecard and risk register feed the review report. Findings become conditions with owners and dates. Each piece assumes the others exist, which is what makes the output coherent rather than a set of independently produced documents that happen to concern the same project.
A DEFENSIBLE VERDICT
The weighted scorecard assesses each domain, applies materiality weighting, and produces a transparent recommendation: Approve, Approve with Conditions, Rework, or Reject. This matters because the hardest moment in any review is explaining an unfavourable decision to a sponsor under schedule pressure. A subjective view invites negotiation. A weighted score with visible inputs does not.
NON-FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS, QUANTIFIED
Solutions rarely fail on features. They fail on the things nobody wrote down – the report that takes eleven minutes, the integration that collapses at month-end volume, the system nobody can restore because recovery was never specified. The NFR assessment covers ten categories and forces measurable targets. Not "highly available" but 99.9 percent monthly uptime excluding agreed maintenance, with degraded read-only mode acceptable during failover.
WHAT IS INCLUDED
Architecture review checklist across ten evidence-based domains. Solution review template. NFR assessment template. Architecture scorecard with weighted rating and automatic recommendation. Risk register with auto-scoring, RAG status and a live dashboard. Decision log for capturing architecture decision records. Review types and variant checklists for concept, high-level design, detailed design, security, pre-go-live and technical exception reviews. Review report template. An AI companion and prompt library. Three complete worked examples – a CRM replacement, a cloud migration and a SaaS implementation – with every template filled in. Start-here guide and licence.
ONE EXAMPLE DELIBERATELY FAILS
Of the three worked examples, one does not pass. That is intentional. A review framework that has never rejected anything teaches an organisation that the gate is theatre, and most published review material only ever demonstrates approval. Seeing the framework produce a negative verdict is how you learn where the bar actually sits.
WHO IT IS FOR
Solution architects, enterprise architects, architecture managers and design authority chairs.
