Many AI transformation programmes start with a use case and a budget request, not a readiness check – and the gap surfaces later as a stalled pilot, a data foundation that was not actually ready, or a governance model built after the fact instead of before it. Leadership usually has an opinion about how ready the organisation is. What is missing is a consistent, scored evidence base to bring into a steering committee before that first commitment is made.
This workbook turns that judgement call into a structured, weighted assessment. It scores 30 criteria across six readiness dimensions – Strategic Alignment & Leadership Commitment, Data Readiness & Quality, Technology & Infrastructure, Talent & Skills Availability, Change Management & Culture, and Governance, Risk & Ethics – each rated on a defined 1-to-5 scoring guide, then rolled into a single weighted AI Readiness Score with automatic RAG status (Green, Amber, Red) at both dimension and overall level. Dimension weights are fully adjustable and validated to sum to 100%, so the score reflects an organisation's own priorities rather than one fixed formula.
The workbook walks from setup to boardroom in four tabs. An Instructions tab sets out the scoring approach and defines each rating on the 1–5 scale. A Settings tab holds the six dimension weights, defaulting to 20/20/15/20/15/10, alongside fields for organisation name, assessment date, and programme name. The Assessment tab is where each of the 30 criteria is scored, with an evidence prompt and a recommended next action already drafted for every item. A Dashboard tab consolidates all of this into the overall weighted score, a per-dimension RAG summary, and a list of the lowest-scoring dimensions flagged for priority attention.
It is built for programme and portfolio leads preparing an investment case, CIOs and CTOs who need a scored view rather than a consultant's opinion to bring to a board, and consultants who want a repeatable readiness instrument to run with a client instead of a blank-page discovery workshop. Because the workbook is designed for re-use, reassessing quarterly or after a major milestone turns a one-off scorecard into a running readiness tracker.
