DESCRIPTION
Rail freight uses trains to transport goods from one location to another by railway. Some of the goods transported by rail include automotive, forest products, raw construction materials, among others. Rail freight is ideal for bulky materials because the weight doesn't matter, unlike when on roads. Trains can transport goods of any weight which can't be shipped through roads. In addition, rail freight is fast because the train doesn't make any stops between the pick-up and drop-off points, and traffic doesn't play a role.
This Financial Model presents a development and operations scenario of a Freight Railroad.
The model includes calculations and assumptions for the Project Development (Land Assumptions, Construction Costs, Rakes, etc), Startup Expenses, Train Route and Sidings Assumptions (Total Sidings, Total Distance, Number of Rakes and avg. Cars per Rake, Freight Capacity, Number of Trips), Revenue from Commodities Haulage (8 different commodities) & Warehouse Lease on siding premises, Train Running and Station Maintenance Costs, Payroll, Operating Expenses, Fixed Assets & Depreciation, Financing through Debt & Equity and Exit Valuation assumptions (WACC and Terminal Value) in case of a potential sale of the business.
The template structure follows Financial Modeling Best Practices principles and is fully customizable.
Detailed instructions for the model's functionality are included in the Excel file.
