The General Environment is characterised by the well-known PESTLEIS acronym ? Politics, Economics, Social/Societal, Technological, Legal, Environmental, International and Security dimensions.

In order to create a model to understand the post-COVID pandemic system in South Africa, one could usefully employ the aforementioned construct. But COVID-19 cuts across all dimensions. In fact, one may safely state that since World War II there has not been an event, or crisis, that has so comprehensively impacted the lives of literally everyone on a global scale.

So instead of using these rather staid dimensions as a point of departure, I have decided to employ some other cross-cutting variables as the main headings for further discussion. These topics are the ones that seem to dominate the present surfeit of writing on the subject (of COVID-19) when one does a literature survey in preparation for a narrative of this nature.
