DESCRIPTION
This is module 1 of a 10-module online training program on the Accelerated Corporate Transformation (ACT) methodology, developed by Dr. Robert H. Miles. It includes the training presentation, video lecture, and course workbook for this module.
Dr. Miles is the world's foremost expert on Corporate Transformation. He has led the implementation ACT in some of the most iconic Corporate Transformations, including Apple, General Electric, IBM Global Services, Symantec, National Semiconductor, Office Depot, PricewaterhouseCoopers, PGA Tour, Rockwell International, Infineon Technologies, Southern Company, and Black & Veatch, as well as a series of smaller public utilities, healthcare institutions, and high-tech startups.
The full online training program, The Transformation Leader's Guide, is available as a Flevy Executive Learning (FEL) program (see link in "Did you know?" box to the right).
Module 1 is titled the Transformation Leader's Challenge. It introduces the key concepts and challenges facing transformation leaders. This module emphasizes the necessity for bold and rapid action to achieve successful transformations.
Dr. Miles highlights that transformation efforts often encounter embedded inhibitors within organizations that can impede progress. These inhibitors, which might be benign during normal operations, become significant obstacles during major transformations if not effectively addressed. The module provides a framework for leaders to identify and overcome these challenges systematically.
Key insights from module 1 include the identification of the 6 major inhibitors to transformation: cautious management culture, business-as-usual processes, initiative gridlock, recalcitrant executives, disengaged employees, and loss of focus during execution. Dr. Miles explains that each of these inhibitors needs to be released in a specific sequence to ensure a disciplined and successful transformation. By understanding these inhibitors and their impacts, leaders can better prepare their organizations for the rigors of transformation, ensuring that all levels of the organization are aligned and engaged.
Module 1 also discusses the importance of gauging an organization's readiness for transformation and a streamlined transformation launch process that runs parallel to day-to-day management.
Finally, Module 1 contains a self-administered survey to enable course participants to gauge the intensity of the major inhibitors of transformation embedded in their organization.
