BENEFITS OF DOCUMENT
DESCRIPTION
The elapsed time between the last good part from the previous production run to the first good piece of the subsequent production run is called setup time. It includes: time to remove/add old tools, dies or fixtures, searching, waiting, walking, locate standards, adjusting and running the machine until a new part, without defects, is produced. Set-up is non-value added ? it is a waste and reducing it to seconds versus hours or days is a focus of globally successful manufacturing firms.
The objectives of this module are to: define set-up, provide an understanding of set-up reduction and review the effect of set-up on the production process. It provides a detailed step-by-step description of the setup reduction process.
This material is suitable for independent study or formal classroom training and includes an exercise, list of tools, quiz questions.
