DESCRIPTION
The Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, commonly known as the FMEA, is used to identify key process characteristics, identify potential failure modes and risk level, improve quality, reliability, and product safety, document the control plan and increase customer satisfaction. Originally used in aviation, the FMEA has become a ?go to? tool for many improvement projects.
In this module, the 13 elements of the FMEA are reviewed including the importance of the Risk Priority Number (RPN). Assigning an RPN to process inputs (e.g. potential root causes) allows them to be prioritized. Additionally, the RPN can be used to construct and RPN / Ease of Completion (EOC) matrix.
This material is suitable for independent study or formal classroom training and includes a list of tools, an exercise, and quiz questions.
