DESCRIPTION
The Value Stream Map (VSM) is one of the fundamental tools of Lean and one of the most useful. It is used to collect details of a process that makes waste visible. Using a ?Current State? version of the process, and a desired ?Future State?, leadership is able to construct an improvement plan that eliminates or significantly reduces the non-value added activities.
The objectives of this module are to Define a Value Stream, Define Value Stream Mapping, Describe the benefits of a Value Stream Map, Explain how to construct a Current State and Future State Value Stream Map, Utilize the Value Stream Map process to prioritize the opportunities to eliminate waste and reduce variation.
Additionally the module covers the three elements of a Value Stream Map, the three concepts of VSM?s and the four types of activities.
This material is suitable for independent study or formal classroom training and includes a list of tools, an exercise, and quiz questions.
