DESCRIPTION
Process mapping is an extremely useful tool that helps teams visualize the process, the process steps, their sequence, decision points and many other characteristics. They are useful in establishing the boundaries or scope of the project (a sometimes difficult task) and are great at helping teams communicate.
What isn't well known are the various map types that are available, and their unique strengths that can be brought to bear on a problem. Included in the list of map types are high level process maps, detailed process maps, SIPOC (Supplier, Inputs, Process, Outputs, Customer), Spaghetti Diagram, Value Stream Map, Swim Lane Diagram, Brown Paper map and others.
These map types are introduced in this module along with a matrix that outlines where, in the DMAIC and DMADV methodology, they are most likely to be used. This material is suitable for independent study or formal classroom training and includes an exercise, list of tools and quiz questions.
