This document refers to the training module 10 only: Compressor Drivers & Couplings. Centrifugal Compressors are available over a wide range of speed from 3000 to 20,000 rpm. There are 3 prime movers are used to drive the centrifugal compressors: steam turbine, gas turbine, and electric motor.

Couplings are used to transmit motion between two shafts that are in line. Couplings are used to connect the prime mover to the centrifugal compressor. Uneven heating of equipment and variation in loading can result in misalignment.

Upon the successful completion of the full program (all 16 modules), you will achieve the following:

• An understanding of the construction and operational constraints of centrifugal compressors and steam turbines.
• Knowledge of how to optimally maintain the equipment for the benefit of the company.
