Being a manager is a profession. That is not accidentally being asked to be the boss of a group of people.
However, you often see that. The best or most senior employee is then asked to take the lead.
Many managers then struggle with how do I address my people and at the same time how do I continue to be appreciated by my people. Many managers secretly have a great need for acceptance by their people, where employees tend to think that managers don't need it because they form a team with their fellow managers.
In the vast majority of practical situations that we encounter as consultants, an MT is not a team. As a rule there is consultation, but little team building at management level. So many managers feel "quite alone." Understanding your role and how to be effective helps you to become better at it.
