Getting the RIGHT information from clients is one of the most difficult parts of a consultants job. The purpose of the Information Request List is to facilitate the selection of information to be reviewed.
Designing an effective information request list is important to any transaction process. This skill is rarely taught – this list provides a comprehensive guideline to designing the perfect information request list.
• Cover letter to the client
• Instructions to the client in completing the information request list
• Legal information requests which include regulatory, corporate and commercial requests
• Financial information requests which include balance sheet, income statement, taxation and forward looking requests.
It is advisable to request prioritized information that is specific to the target company. As such, important that the required list is tailored to focus on the specific target company taking into account the scope of the data to be provided, which reflects the specific risks of the transaction.
