Is a Strategy Map?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you&#8217;re familiar with the strategic management framework <a href=\"https:\/\/flevy.com\/business-toolkit\/balanced-scorecard-bsc\">Balanced Scorecard<\/a>, you may have also come across the concept of a Strategy Map. \u00a0After all, a Strategy Map is a core element of the formulation of a Balanced Scorecard. \u00a0Both frameworks were developed by Robert Kaplan and David Norton.<\/p>\n<p>Wikipedia defines a Strategy Map as:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A diagram that is used to document the primary strategic goals being pursued by an organization or management team.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>More specifically, a <a href=\"https:\/\/flevy.com\/browse\/flevypro\/strategy-map-2488\">Strategy Map<\/a> describes how our organization creates value \u00a0by connecting strategic objectives in explicitly cause-and-effect relationship with each other in the four Balanced Scorecard objectives:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Financial<\/li>\n<li>Customer<\/li>\n<li>Processes<\/li>\n<li>Learning and Growth<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The diagram below captures how the Strategic Map (along with the Balanced Scorecard) fits within the full process of translation corporate\u00a0mission into strategic outcomes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/flevy.com\/browse\/flevypro\/strategy-map-2488\"><img and resources at all organization levels. \u00a0 A core feature of this framework is its emphasis on communication strategy to the whole workforce. \u00a0In fact, a Strategy Map can help tremendously in describing the strategy and to communicate the strategy among executives and to their employees.<\/p>\n<p>This slide below shows how a Strategy Map is structured and presented:<\/p>\n<p><a
