By clearly demonstrating the benefits and providing adequate incentives, leaders can guide logical individuals towards embracing the change. This strategy emphasizes the need for clear, factual communication and the alignment of organizational goals with personal interests.

Normative-Reeducative

The basic supposition for this Strategy is that people are social individuals and will follow social customs and values. Effective Change, in this Strategy, hinges on defining and decoding prevailing customs and values anew and developing commitments to them. This approach leverages social norms and cultural alignment to foster change, making it essential to engage influencers and opinion leaders within the organization. By reshaping the social fabric and cultural narratives, this strategy aims to create a collective commitment to change.

Power-Coercive

The basic supposition for this Change Strategy is that people are fundamentally acquiescent and will usually act on what is asked of them or can be made to do so. As per this strategy, successful Change is based on the exertion of authority and the application of sanctions. This approach may involve direct commands, regulations, and the use of formal authority to enforce change. While often seen as a last resort, it can be effective in crisis situations where rapid, decisive action is necessary to overcome resistance.

Environmental-Adaptive

The basic supposition for this Strategy is that although people reject loss and interruption, they adapt to changing conditions. The approach to Change here is to build a fresh organization and progressively relocate employees from the old to the new. This Change Management Strategy focuses on minimizing disruption by gradually transitioning to new ways of working, thereby reducing resistance. By creating an environment that supports the new behaviors and structures, employees can adapt more easily to the changes over time.

Interested in learning more about 4 Strategies of Change Management? You can download an editable PowerPoint presentation on 4 Strategies of Change Management here on the Flevy documents marketplace.

Do You Find Value in This Framework?

You can download in-depth presentations on this and hundreds of similar business frameworks from the FlevyPro Library. FlevyPro is trusted and utilized by 1000s of management consultants and corporate executives.

For even more best practices available on Flevy, have a look at our top 100 lists:

Top 100 in Strategy & Transformation

Top 100 Consulting Frameworks

Top 100 in Digital Transformation

Top 100 in Operational Excellence

Top 100 in Organization & Change

Almost every organization has to go through the process of radical change at some point in its lifetime to survive and to remain relevant, because the business environment is constantly changing and evolving.
