4 Departments You Can Outsource

Outsourcing is a business practice that has been around for as long as formal business has. Companies can save a lot of money from their payroll and expenses by outsourcing some staff and even whole departments of their company to vendors who specialize in specific functions. Outsourcing has many advantages to a business other than just saving money though; it allows more agile growth and allows your directly employed staff more time and energy to focus on the core business.

With this in mind, let’s have a quick look at a few departments you can outsource in your business.

Customer Service

When calling customer support, you’ve almost certainly found yourself talking to someone with an unfamiliar accent in a different country, or without knowing, have been transferred to a company that deals specifically with customer support. These call centers are well equipped to handle any support your customers might need, whether it’s support on your product, billing support, or any other support need.

It’s not just support that you can outsource though – consider cold calling and lead generation offerings from third party companies too.

Accounts and Bookkeeping

Having an in-house finance team can be necessary in some businesses, but this department can also be easily outsourced. You could also consider a hybrid model, where your basic record-keeping bookkeepers or creditors and debtors departments are under your employ, but you outsource the more high-level accounts functions to an accountant or accountancy firm. Your tax could also fall under these outsourced functions, since tax returns need a very specific set of skills that you might not otherwise need in-house. You can consider payroll too!

The IT Department

The IT department is the department other business functions love to hate. It can also be a very expensive department to run in-house because of the high cost of IT staff, and the specialty equipment that they need to properly perform their roles. If all you need is a company to look after your computers, then it isn’t a core business function and you should consider outsourcing it.

Outsourced IT consulting services can be a holistic function, covering many different aspects, including your online and hosted services needed too.

Social Media Marketing

This should be one of the easier functions to outsource as it is can, at its core, be easily adapted to be offered as a service to you instead of being handled in-house. Marketing in general is a department and function that can exist outside of your payroll, but because marketing is so business-critical to attract new clients and retain existing clients, you might want more control over your marketing team, in which case, this might not be the right fit for you.

These are just a few quick examples of where your business can shift their thinking for recruitment away from direct employment and towards outsourcing services where it is possible. Savings and increased market agility aside, it puts less strain on your human resources team and, to put it simply, increases your bottom line.
